jean-marie fouilleul luthier guitare luthier guitare meilleur ouvrier de france 1989 ~ depuis 1979…. plus de 500 guitares construites... de superbes rencontres... des musiques plein la tête... un travail fascinant since 1979... more than 500 guitars made... beautiful encounters... music in mind... a fascinating job arche guitare classique de concert - haut de gamme performance classical guitar - top of range détails photos arche blues guitare cordes acier - 12 cases hors manche steel strings guitar détails photos ls guitare classique de concert performance classical guitar détails photos c9 guitare classique de concert performance classical guitar détails photos riviera guitare classique de concert performance classical guitar détails photos «une guitare est une langue, avec ses mots, sa grammaire... une langue à la fois riche et belle pouvant traduire une pensée poétique, philosophique ou une simple conversation ! mon travail est de composer cette langue» “a guitar is a language with it words, and it grammar... a language rich and beautiful to be able to give a poetry or philosophical character to ideas, as well as just to chat ! my work is just to do it“ parcours j'ai eu la chance de grandir dans un milieu familial où la musique faisait partie du quotidien. il n'était pas rare de se réveiller au son d'une fugue de bach que mon père interprétait à l’orgue. la musique a toujours été pour moi un espace privilégié de découvertes et d'épanouissement. de surcroît, il y a toujours eu à la maison un atelier pour travailler le bois. mon père a lui-même participé à la réalisation de ses orgues. dans les années 70, il s'était également mis à fabriquer un clavecin. ce fut mon premier vrai regard sur le monde de la lutherie, avant de réaliser une première guitare en 1979. a partir de 1983 je commence un parcours personnel visant à la réalisation de mes propres instruments. il m'aura fallu 11 années pour fabriquer ce que je considérais alors comme la synthèse de ce que j'avais vu, entendu et fait. j'ai obtenu, en 1989, le titre de «meilleur ouvrier de france», reconnaissance par mes pairs et notamment l’un des plus célèbres d’entre eux, daniel friederich. mais ma curiosité à comprendre, analyser le monde sonore, m’a toujours poussé à regarder, écouter, ce que faisaient d'autres luthiers «grands maîtres» d'hier et d'aujourd'hui (torres, fleta, bouchet, hauser, friederich…), mais aussi à rencontrer et travailler avec des collègues luthiers en violon, ainsi que de participer à des programmes de recherche avec des acousticiens et notamment au laum (laboratoire d'acoustique de l'université du maine) pour la mise en place d'outils informatiques d'aide à la conception et la caractérisation des guitares, l’actuel programme pafi (http://www.pafi.fr). pour mes créations de guitares de concert, je reste persuadé que ces recherches panoramiques, des instruments anciens (vihuella, guitare romantique) aux guitares actuelles, ainsi que les recherches en acoustique permettent une analyse à la fois rationnelle, subtile et intuitive du son et de l’instrument. je peux dire aujourd’hui, avec le recul et l’expérience de plus de 530 instruments fabriqués, que je réalise des guitares sensibles et cohérentes, alliant richesse de timbre, dynamique et équilibre. actuellement, mes instruments parcourent l’asie (japon, chine), les amériques (etats- unis, canada, argentine), et l’europe (belgique, suisse, angleterre), sans oublier la france où j’ai posé mon établi dans le calme de la campagne bretonne. professional background a chance the music was present everyday in my family. i was often woken up by a bach's fugue played on an organ by my father. hence, the music has never been a chore but lots of moments of discovery and fulfilment instead. moreover, there was always a workshop at home for woodwork. my father was an inventive d.i.y enthusiast who has himself taken part in building his organs. in the seventies, he built a spinet (little harpsischord). that was my first sight to the manufacture of stringed instruments. so that was natural for me to put myself into this work as soon as i got the opportunity, until i made my first guitar in 1979. in 1983, that's the starting point of my personnal career to make instruments on my own, taking all the benefit of all my previous experiences. it took me about 11 years to make what was in my opinion a synthesis of all i had seen, heard, and made before. in 1989, i got the reward «meilleur ouvrier de france», a nice way to be recognized by one’s peers and especially daniel friederich. but my curiousity to understand and to analyse the sounds world has always lead me to look at and to hear to what was made by my colleagues.
